Kevin B. Barron and Mauri Bernstein are American immigrants to Canada and have been working together for over 12 years. Between the two of them, they have over 50 years of showbiz experience. Kevin is also a multiple Emmy and M.P.S.E. award-winning sound editor and Mauri is also a director, actor and puppeteer.
Kevin’s sound work includes the feature films, Dances with Wolves and Pumpkinhead and dozens of episodes of The West Wing, ER, Malcolm in the Middle, and Crimes of Fashion for Lifetime, Network for Women.
Mauri’s performance career has run the gamut from “nerd girl” on Doogie Howser, M.D. to cheesy lounge singer in the feature Uncross the Stars to dozens of puppets in Team America, World Police. She improvised for eleven years with ComedySportz Los Angeles, wrote and performed sketch comedy with Wasteland Comedy and The Search Party, and spent 161 episodes under the furniture on Sabrina the Teenage Witch as the soft, vulnerable underbelly of Salem the cat.
Largely working in the genre Stupid Comedy for Smart People, Mauri and Kevin have co-written six off-beat short films produced to date. Their short script, Stimulus Package, was a finalist for both the 3rd Annual Hot Shot Shorts and the Canada International Film Festival screenwriting competition. The film, directed by Mauri, has played Palm Beach International Women’s Film Festival, Vancouver Women in Film Festival, Action on Film, and the Vancouver DSLR Film Festival, where it garnered Second Place.
Their puppet comedy Head of the Household, was awarded “Best TV Pilot” at the Seattle True Independent Film Festival and screened at the Sexy International Paris Film Festival and the Sexy International Film Festival in Melbourne, Australia.
It’s Coming From Inside the Fridge was a Top Ten Finalist in CFC’s ShortsNonStop.
Their comedy feature script, Speak Now, placed in the finals at the 2009 One In Ten Screenplay Contest and made the semi’s at Moondance.
Mauri and Kevin have also co-written several television projects including the television special, Active Dog Formula 500, which was just starting development at Animal Planet when the network rebranded.
